The World According to Garp

By John Irving

The thing I found most desirable here is the subtle descriptive dry outlook on such a vast array of characters. I don’t think a single person described in this book would be considered average, and yet they all seem to gel well in stasis as well as volatile times.

I recommend this title to anyone who does not need a happy ending to be hopeful and where less than traditional living is appreciated among those of the traditional.

I also learned a little about geography and WWII in this book. The adaptation of this book to film was done well with excellent art direction and acting skills, but nothing replaces the richness of the written word.

I read this book as a parent and appreciated what skill was put into this book to make it not only digestible by all age groups but realistic and enthralling. This book was written so well it held me through two readings, and it is a general sci-fi genre I rarely enjoy.
